The Jang Bogo Global Foundation (Chairman Kim Deok-ryong) announced on the 8th that it will hold the '9th Jang Bogo Jang Bogo Hansang Awards' ceremony at the Jungheung Gold Spa & Resort in Naju, Jeollanam-do on the 9th.
The Jang Han-sang Award is given to a person who inherited the pioneering and challenging spirit of Jang Bogo and Cheonghaejin, who was active as a Hansang (Korean merchant) during the Silla Dynasty, and contributed to the economic and cultural territorial expansion of the Republic of Korea, the development of the Korean community, and the fostering of the identity of the Korean people, as a '21st Century Jang Bogo Ambassador'.
The foundation held an awards selection committee meeting last August and announced the winners.
The target was Cho Byung-tae, chairman of Sonnet Group, a New York, U.S.-based company that sells more than 70 million sports brand MLB caps annually, generating $500 million in annual sales.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Award went to Nam Ki-hak, Chairman of Yejia Technology Group of China; the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award went to Heo Young-soo, Chairman of JPM of Japan; the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award went to Kim Jong-heon, President of Mugunghwa Distribution Group of Indonesia; the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award went to Yang Jang-seok, Chairman of KC Innerbella of China; and the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award went to Choi Ki-tae, Chairman of Pak Line International of Germany.
The awards ceremony will be attended by approximately 200 people, including the awardees, Chairman Kim Deok-ryong, National Assembly member Park Ji-won, Wando County Mayor Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Council Chairman Kim Yang-hoon, World Korean Traders Association Chairman Park Jong-beom, Choi Kyung-joo, Choi Kyung-joo Foundation 스포츠 Chairman Choi Kyung-joo, Korea Engineering Association Chairman Lee Hae-kyung, Engineering Mutual Aid Association Chairman Lee Jae-wan, Kim Jum-bae, Chairman of the Jang Han-sang Award Association, past awardees, European Korean Association Federation Chairman Kim Young-ki, Asian Korean Association Federation Chairman Yoon Hee, and Canadian Korean Association Federation Chairman Lee Seok-ro.
The award ceremony for the '3rd Jang Bogohan Award Winners' Entrepreneurship Story Essay Contest' will also be held. The elementary school grand prize winner will be Kim Jun from Seoul Jamhyeon Elementary School, and the middle school grand prize winner will be Kim Yun-woo from Wando Middle School.
From the 7th, a 2-day, 1-night tour of Wando-gun was held for the Jang Bogo Award recipients and past recipients.
On the 9th and 10th, there will be an exhibition of excellent local products and an export consultation meeting. In addition, a dinner hosted by Chairman Kim Jum-bae, a creative pansori performance, and a meeting to build a network between the Jang Han-sang Award Winners Association and the Korea Engineering Association were also held.
Chairman Kim Deok-ryong introduced the event, saying, “This event will be an opportunity to build a win-win partnership between Korean companies and domestic companies through not only an awards ceremony but also an export consultation meeting and a golf tournament.”
On the 10th, the '3rd Jang Bogo Choi Kyung-ju Golf Tournament' will be held at Jungheung Gold Lake CC, with the participation of professional golfer Choi Kyung-ju, the 22nd Jang Han-sang winner, and around 160 amateur golfers.
Since 2021, the foundation has been building a network to create new businesses through exchanges and cooperation between Han Sang and domestic companies through the Jang Han Sang Award Winners Association and the Jang Bogo Academy Alumni Association.
Hwang Sang-seok, the executive director of the foundation, said, "Since previous winners are actively participating in domestic small and medium-sized enterprise product exhibitions, product evaluations, export consultations, etc., it will be a competition that produces tangible results."
